Flu Shot Friday: Annual event taking place Sep. 20

Local 10 and Walgreens are teaming up once again for Flu Shot Friday. This year’s event is taking place Friday, September 20.

Local 10′s Kristi Krueger will be at a select Walgreens store and will be receiving her flu shot live on the air in the 9 a.m. newscast.

The flu shot, usually administered in your arm, triggers your immune system to get ready to fight off a future infection. Protection starts approximately 2 weeks after you get the shot. Ahead of flu season, Walgreens ordered plenty of flu shots and vouchers for South Florida.

During our Flu Shot Friday event, uninsured and underinsured individuals will be given a flu shot voucher at Walgreens stores, allowing them to receive the flu vaccine at no cost. It’s also a perfect time for people with health insurance to receive their vaccination, too.

The flu shot vouchers are donated by Walgreens Assistance Inc., as part of a program to make flu shots available to those without health insurance coverage or to those who are unable to afford a flu shot.

Each voucher is good for one flu shot at any Walgreens Pharmacy and is subject to the terms and conditions on the voucher. You must be 18 years of age or older to receive a flu shot at Walgreens stores. All Walgreens stores are participating in the Local 10 Flu Shot Friday event and will be administering flu shots during regularly scheduled store hours.

“Walgreens has a long history of stepping up to support our communities,” said Georgia Lehoczky, Walgreens Regional Healthcare Director. “With our Vaccine Equity Initiative, we help ensure underserved and at-risk communities stay safe from respiratory illnesses through local vaccination clinics.”

Local 10′s Flu Shot Friday takes place for one day only. No appointment is necessary.

“Vaccines are our best defense against the spread of these life-threatening, preventable diseases,” added Lehoczky. “Together, we can protect ourselves and our loved ones this fall.”
