‘Chicago’ celebrates 50 years with final tour stop in Miami

MIAMI – It’s time to give ‘em the old “razzle, dazzle!”

Chicago” the musical is making a stop at the Adrienne Arsht Center in Miami. It’s the last stop of the tour during the musical’s 50th anniversary!

Local 10 sat down with Ellie Roddy who plays “Roxie Hart” and Michael Vita, who was part of the ensemble in 1975 during the original production.

Vita shared stories of what it was like working with the legendary Bob Fosse, and talking about the “Fosse Style” that is still used today.

“You have to be commanding. Your fingertips, your hips, your feet, your shoulders, your eyes,” he said as he described the movement.

Vita performed alongside the original Roxy and Velma: Gwen Verdon and Chita Rivera

“Two of the top dancing stars on Broadway dancing together. That was incredible,” said Vita.

It’s certainly a lot of pressure for anyone who steps into their shoes!

“It’s intimidating,” said Roddy. “It’s really special to be one of those people and you hope that you do it justice.”

The musical transcends generations, with a message that is still relevant today.

“People just want a good story whether it’s true or false,” said Roddy.

“It’s the manipulation of truth and justice and also the privilege that accompanies fame,” added Vita.

Chicago is playing at the Arsht Center until June 22. Tickets range from $41 to $182.
