MIRAMAR, Fla. – If you’re looking for a way to celebrate Black History and Reggae Month, look no further.
There is a festival happening this weekend that is doing just that with live music and delicious food, and it’s also featuring a Grammy-winning artist.
This weekend, the Miramar Regional Amphitheater is transforming for the third annual Afro Carib Festival.
The event purposely takes place during Black History and Reggae Month and celebrates the blend of cultures and a shared bond rooted in African origins.
“I think it’s important to showcase our culture, because even if you’re from the Caribbean, you know the Caribbean is vast,” Miramar Commissioner Alexandra P. Davis said.
So get ready to get a taste of culture and cuisine.
“If you’ve never tried, for example, Jamaican festival bread or fufu, you can come to the festival and experience all that those countries have to offer in terms of culinary experiences right here,” Davis said.
Grammy-award-winning reggae phenom Koffee will also bless the stage.
The 23-year-old is this year’s headliner. She’ll be performing along with Afro pop star Tekno and other local and national artists in reggae, R&B, and Kompa.
“Those from Africa and Nigeria -- I mean, we all came from there as Black folks, but a lot of time we don’t understand each other’s different nuances and we can learn more about each other and make the place a more happy place,” Davis said.
The commissioner said there isn’t a bad seat in the house.
Tickets start at $25, and if you’re a last-minute person, you can buy tickets at the door.
