MIAMI – A new addition to a mural in Miami’s Overtorwn neighborhood is dedicated to the legacy of Dana Albert Dorsey, who is known as the first Black millionaire of Miami.
In the late 1800′s, Dorsey bought a parcel of land in Overtown, where he built rental properties for the Black community that extended as far north as Fort Lauderdale.
One piece of property he famously sold to Carl Fisher back in 1926 -- what’s now known as Fisher Island.
The mural, named “Dorsey’s Legacy,” was a joint effort between international artist Kyle Holbrook and Miami-based artist Raven Joy-Raven Fox. It is located just one block away from Dorsey Park.
Dorsey, born in 1872, was a pioneering businessman, banker and philanthropist. He died on Feb. 29, 1940.
