Jazz in the Gardens returns to Hard Rock Stadium with star-studded lineup

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – Smooth jazz, island vibes and R&B classics will fill the air this weekend as Jazz in the Gardens returns for its 18th year.

The annual music festival, considered one of the largest Black music festivals in the U.S., will once again bring A-list acts to the stage while also showcasing local food vendors, artists and cultural experiences at Hard Rock Stadium.

“Most music festivals fizzle out, but Jazz in the Gardens continues to grow,” Miami Gardens Mayor Rodney Harris said.

The festival has evolved from a small parking lot event into a premier destination for music lovers.

“Eighteen years ago, our first mayor, Shirley Gibson, had a vision of having a music festival here, and it started in a little parking lot right over my shoulder here,” Harris said. “After that, it grew into one of the most premier music festivals in the country.”

This year’s lineup features stars across multiple genres, including R&B legends New Edition, Toni Braxton and Lauryn Hill, along with dancehall icon Beenie Man.

“I’m really looking forward to seeing New Edition because that’s a group I grew up with,” one festivalgoer said.

Beenie Man, making his return to an American stage after 13 years, said he’s ready to bring high-energy performances.

“Dancehall music has been my whole entire life,” he said when speaking to Local 10′s Alexis Frazier. “My journal through music is to work hard in the studio and even harder on stage.”

The festival is also an economic driver for Miami Gardens, generating millions in revenue and creating thousands of jobs.

“You’re going to have people from the Bahamas, Chicago, Los Angeles flocking to Miami Gardens,” Harris said. “They’re going to utilize the hotels, the restaurants, and other entertainment and hospitality venues.”

Jazz in the Gardens has long served as a platform for South Florida talent, including the late Betty Wright. City leaders say that tradition will continue.

“Like Pretty Porcelain is going to be a part of it, Uncle Luke is a legend and he’s going to be a part of this,” Harris added. “We try to capture as many local artists as we possibly can.”

Some proceeds from the festival benefit local churches, schools and nonprofit organizations.

Events have already kicked off, but the main concerts begin Saturday. Click here for more information on the event.
