Traveling to Kansas got risky after tuberculosis outbreak

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has been tracking an outbreak of tuberculosis in Kansas.

The Kansas Department of Health and Environment reported there were 67 confirmed cases on Jan. 24. Two have died.

The bacteria lives in the lungs causing cough and chest pain. Other symptoms include fever, phlegm, inflammation, and weight loss.

The bacteria is more likely to spread in crowded spaces such as hospitals, prisons, jails, homeless shelters, and nursing homes.

People living with conditions that weaken their immune system are more vulnerable.
