Fire rages for over more than 3 hours at Medley car parts warehouse

Thick smoke rises into air; nobody injured

MEDLEY, Fla. – Firefighters battled a large fire at a Medley junkyard Wednesday morning.

The inferno started around 10:30 a.m. and it wasn’t until 2 p.m. that the fire was 100% under control.

The fire started in one of the storage buildings then spread to other areas of Best Used Auto Parks at 7225 NW 84th Ave. Firefighters said tires and other flammable materials caught on fire.

At least 21 Miami-Dade Fire Rescue crews responded to the scene, attempting to put out the fire from different angles.

“Whenever you have these kind of fires, they excel rapidly because of the combustible materials, the petroleum products,” Miami-Dade Fire Rescue Lt. Kirsten Miller said.

Those materials likely helped fuel the fire.

A metal storage structure partially collapsed due to the flames.

A witness working nearby said he could hear a number of explosions coming from the facility where the fire was burning.

No injuries were reported although one firefighter was taken to the hospital as a precaution.

Investigators remained at the scene into the evening trying to figure out how the fire started.
