Man dies after surgeon allegedly removed wrong organ

Attorney: “This is the doctor’s second wrong site surgery”

PENSACOLA, Fla. – The wife of an Alabama man is seeking justice after her husband died on an operating table in Florida.

She said the doctor cut the wrong organ out of his body.

Last month, William and Beverly Bryan were visiting Destin when she said William suddenly started experiencing extreme pain.

They went to the hospital and her husband was told he needed his spleen removed immediately so he went in for surgery.

A pathology report later revealed the doctor had removed his liver, which is on the opposite side of the body from the spleen and is essential to survive.

Beverly Bryan has now filed a lawsuit.

“I know I’m not the only wife that has lost her husband suddenly, but the loss of my bill was exceptionally unnecessary and brutal. We do not want this to happen to anyone else by this particular individual,” said Beverly Bryan.

The doctor is said to have 14 years of experience, but the Bryans’ attorney claimed this is the doctor’s second wrong site surgery in two years.

A previous case was settled in 2023.

The hospital said it is investigating the incident and cooperating with the Walton County Sheriff’s Office.
