A bill filed last year to make driving in the left lane on a Florida highway illegal is back with a new, similar bill.
Florida Rep. Jenna Persons-Mulicka, R-Fort Myers filed HB 545 on Tuesday.

The bill would prohibit drivers in the state from using the furthermost left-hand lane on a highway with two or more lanes moving in the same direction with a posted speed limit of at least 65 mph.
According to the bill, may only use the left lane when:
- Overtaking and passing another vehicle
- Preparing to exit the road, street, or highway
- Otherwise directed by an official traffic control 42 device
- If environmental or traffic conditions dictate.
Persons-Mulicka proposed a similar bill in January 2023.
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis vetoed the bill last year. He said “it could potentially increase congestion in Florida’s urban areas as drivers may decide to not utilize the furthest left-hand lane at all for fear of being ticketed.”
DeSantis also said the bill was too broad.
