A Coral Springs Police officer was on patrol when he saw a Toyota Avalon traveling on Sample Road last month.
The officer did a records check and found that the license plate on the Avalon was assigned to a Chrysler van.
The officer pulled over the car, and said that the driver Maria Elena Pineda, 34, āwas visibly nervous and advised she was out of jail on bond for driving while her license was suspended.
The officer said he smelled a strong odor of cannabis coming from the car, and asked Pineda if there were narcotics in the car.
He said that she replied that there was marijuana.
During a further check, the officer found that Pineda was a habitual traffic violator, and that her license had been suspended 13 times with four previous convictions for driving without a license.
The officer removed Pineda from the car and placed her in handcuffs.
He said he then saw a glass pipe in the driverās seat.
He said the pipe was tested and found to have cocaine residue.
The officer also said that he found two bags of marijuana in Pinedaās purse.
Pineda was arrested and booked into the Broward County Jail.
She is charged with driving without a license by a habitual traffic violator, attaching a license plate to a vehicle that it is not assigned to, possession of cannabis and possession of drug paraphernalia.
She has since bonded out of jail.
