American is now the first U.S. airline to touch down at Tulum International Airport.
Nonstop service to Tulum also began Thursday from Charlotte and Dallas-Fort Worth.
Thursday marks the “first day of international operations at the recently constructed airport,” a news release from the airline stated.
“Service to Tulum will give customers convenient access to the ancient ruins, picturesque landscapes and white sand beaches of this Mexican paradise,” the news release stated. “The addition of this exciting new route to Tulum complements the 45 other unique destinations American operates direct from MIA to Mexico, the Caribbean and Latin America (MCLA).”
Already this year, American Airlines has launched service from Miami to Governor’s Harbour, Bahamas, and became the only U.S. airline to fly nonstop to Ocho Rios, Jamaica.
“We continue to strengthen Miami as American’s largest international gateway – offering our customers direct and unparalleled access to Mexico, the Caribbean and Latin America,” said Juan Carlos Liscano, American’s Vice President of MIA Hub Operations. “New service to Tulum joins a lineup of six destinations in Mexico, including Merida, Monterrey, Cozumel, Cancun and Mexico City. Our continued growth is a testament to American’s commitment as Miami’s Hometown Airline.”
