Most of 2023 unsolved homicide flyers in Miami were from cases in Model City, Little Haiti

Police: 4 of 12 unsolved homicides closed

MIAMI – As of Sunday morning, the Miami Police Department had released 12 flyers for unsolved homicides in 2023. Only eight remained open as of Tuesday.

Except for a 60-year-old woman all of the victims were men. Nine were in their 30s or younger, and over half of the cases were in Miami’s Model City and Little Haiti neighborhoods. The other cases were in Little Havana, Overtown, Downtown, Virginia Key, and Allapattah.

Officer Kiara Delva, a spokeswoman for the Miami Police Department, later told Local 10 News that four out of the 12 cases had closed. Two “by arrest” and two as “a justifiable shooting.”

MODEL CITY: 4 cases

Tyler Bradley Royal, 24, and Antoine Eugene Joe, Jr., 26, were killed together on Aug. 20, 2023, near Northwest 12 Avenue and 42 Street.

Rosean Bruce, 29, was killed on April 12, 2023, near Northwest 13 Avenue and 62 Street. McMiller Anthony Louis, 30, was killed on Jan. 2, 2023, near Northwest 15 Avenue and 63 Street. According to Delva, this case was later closed as “a justifiable shooting.”

LITTLE HAITI: 3 cases

The two youngest victims were in Little Haiti: Antwan Hampton, 18, was killed on Dec. 20, 2023, at Northwest Second Court and 69 Street, and Davidson Jeanty, 22, was killed on Oct. 1, 2023, near Northwest Fourth Avenue and 68 Street. According to Delva, Hampton’s case was later “closed by arrest.”

Raymond Lamar Johnson, 68, the eldest victim, was also killed in Little Haiti on Aug. 31, 2023, near Northeast Miami Court and 71 Street. According to Delva, Johnson’s case closed as a “justifiable shooting.”

LITTLE HAVANA: Boris Lone, 29, was killed on Sept. 25, 2023, near Southwest 14 Avenue and Sixth Street.

OVERTOWN: Theartis Copeland, 36, was killed on Nov. 19, 2023, near Northwest First Place and 17 Street.

DOWNTOWN: Cassius Steven McCandele, 38, was killed on Nov. 26, 2023, near Northwest Third Avenue and First Street.

VIRGINIA KEY: Tyson Cash, 48, was killed on May 26, 2023, at 200 Rickenbacker Causeway.

ALLAPATTAH: Marie Noel, 60, was killed on Jan. 9, 2023, at Northwest 17 Avenue and 28 Street. According to Delva, this case was later “closed by arrest.”
