Police: Man shot in the head in Florida City

FLORIDA CITY, Fla. – Miami-Dade police have taken over a shooting investigation in Florida City.

According to Florida City police, the shooting occurred shortly before 10 p.m. Tuesday outside the victim’s home in the 1200 block of Northwest Seventh Avenue.

FCPD officers arrived at the scene and found the victim, who had been shot in the head, inside a vehicle.

Due to weather, police said Miami-Dade Fire Rescue personnel had to transport the victim by ground to Jackson South Medical Center, where he was initially listed in critical condition.

Police later confirmed that the victim is on life support and is not expected to survive.

The victim’s brother identified him to Local 10 News as 21-year-old Eric Jackson.

“Eric is a good guy, stayed out of trouble, helped his kid. Eric, he’s in good hands,” Johnny Grandjean said.

Florida City police say they believe the shooter was a relative.

Miami-Dade police confirmed Wednesday morning that their Homicide Bureau has assumed the investigation.

A Local 10 News crew was at the scene as the car Jackson was inside in was towed away.

Relatives say Jackson has a 1-year-old daughter and are hoping for justice.

“They’re very upset, but they’re just praying and hoping, praying and hoping that everything comes out on our side,” Grandjean said.

Anyone with information about the shooting is urged to call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-8477.
