Man stabbed during fight at west Miami-Dade LA Fitness, police say

Gymgoer says fight was over locker

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. – Medics took two men to an area hospital after a fight at a west Miami-Dade gym led to a stabbing Thursday morning, according to police.

A Miami-Dade Police Department spokesperson said it happened at around 8 a.m. at the LA Fitness at 14100 SW Eighth St. near the Tamiami area.

That spokesperson said the man stabbed, as well as the “subject,” who was injured in the fight, were both hospitalized and stable as of around 9:45 a.m.

Authorities hadn’t yet publicly identified the “subject” or victim or said whether they intend to pursue charges in the case.

Witnesses gave varying accounts of the incident. Gymgoer Camila Vergara said the dispute was over a locker.

“They were arguing over a locker and one of them stabbed the other and I think the other (one) hit the one that stabbed him with a chair,” Vergara said. “People were saying that the bathroom was full of blood.”

Police said their investigation continued into the morning.
