Sanchez also said they did not believe the man found dead was Luciano Mercenari, 29, who vanished on Monday evening while on his paddleboard through the PInes Canal and off Key Biscayne.

The U.S. Coast Guard announced Wednesday that a boater had found Mercenari’s paddleboard and gear off Fort Lauderdale. Mercenari was last seen wearing gray sports shorts and a light gray Reef Cheefs rash guard.

The Coast Guard asked anyone with information about his whereabouts to call 305-535-4300, or 786-316-1074.
