Events are being held across South Florida Wednesday to honor the lives lost 23 years ago in the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.
Below is a list of events being held in Miami-Dade and Broward counties.

MIAMI-DADE
8:30 a.m. Miami Beach: First responders from the City of Miami Beach Fire and Police Departments will hold a joint observance to honor the memory of the 2,977 victims who died during the 9/11 terror attacks.
The Miami Beach ceremony will begin at 8:30 a.m. outside Fire Station 2, located at 2300 Pine Tree Drive. A moment of silence will be observed at 8:46 a.m. as first responders lower the American flag to half-staff.
10 a.m. southwest Miami-Dade: The Miami-Dade Police and Fire Rescue Departments, along with the U.S. Southern Command will host a remembrance ceremony for the law enforcement officers, firefighters and military personnel who died while responding to the terrorist attacks.
The event will be held at Tropical Park, located at 7900 SW 40th St.
BROWARD
7 a.m. Davie: Broward College’s Institute of Public Safety will be holding a ceremony to honor the lives lost in the 9/11 terrorist attacks. The event will be held at the college’s Central Campus, located at 3501 Davie Rd. (Bldgs. 21 and 22).
8:15 a.m. Miramar: The city of Miramar will hold a 9/11 veterans memorial event with special guest speaker, FBI Special Agent in Charge Jeffrey B. Veltri, who heads the FBI’s Miami Field Office.
The event will be held at Miramar Regional Park, located at 16801 Miramar Parkway.
8:30 a.m. Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport: The Broward County Aviation Department will host a ceremony to mark the 23rd anniversary of Patriot Day. The “FLL Will Never Forget” commemoration is an annual reflection honoring the thousands of innocent lives lost on September 11, 2001.
The Sept. 11 ceremony will be held at the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport and scheduled speakers include Broward County Mayor Nan Rich, County Administrator Monica Cepero, FLL CEO/Director of Aviation Mark E. Gale, Transportation Security Administration (TSA) Federal Security Director Jason Martin, U.S. Customs & Border Protection (CBP) Assistant Port Director Stephen Balog, and Broward County Sheriff Gregory Tony. Special guests include a Bagpipes Troupe and Honor Guards from the TSA, CBP, and Broward Sheriff’s Office. Additionally, Dayne Malcolm of Spirit Airlines will perform the National Anthem (“Star-Spangled Banner”) and “God Bless America.”
The event will be held at FLL’s permanent 9/11 Memorial in Terminal 1, lower level (Baggage Claim) area.
8:30 a.m. Pembroke Pines: The city of Pembroke Pines will remember and honor the nearly 3,000 people who lost their lives during the 9/11 attacks in New York, Washington D.C. and Shanksville, Pennsylvania, the thousands injured, and the first responders who tried to save as many lives as they could.
The event will be held at Charles F. Dodge City Center Memorial Park, located at 601 City Center Way.
9 a.m. Fort Lauderdale: The city of Fort Lauderdale and the Fort Lauderdale Fire & Safety Museum will hold a 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony at the Fort Lauderdale Fire and Safety Museum, located at 1022 West Las Olas Boulevard.
11 a.m. Weston: The Palace at Weston is hosting a special event to honor Edwin Jorge, a 9/11 survivor and former Regional Manager of the New York Peace Corps Office. Edwin was located in Building 6 of the World Trade Center when it was destroyed by the collapse of the North Tower.
The event will be held at The Palace at Weston – Memory Care Community, located at 16025 Emerald Estates Drive.
6 p.m. Pompano Beach: The City of Pompano Beach Parks and Recreation Department, in collaboration with Pompano Beach Fire Rescue, The Broward Sheriff’s Office, and the Pompano Beach Historical Society, invites the public to an evening of recognition and remembrance to honor the victims of the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.
The event will be held at Founders Park, located at 215 NE Fourth St.
