MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – Miami Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill was direct earlier this week while saying he wants the Miami-Dade police officer seen on body worn camera throwing him to the ground to be removed from the force.
“He got to go man because not only did he treat me bad but he also treated my teammates with disrespect,” said Hill.
That officer is Daniel Torres, a 27-year veteran with the Miami-Dade Police Department. He’s now on administrative leave following the incident.
Video of Hill’s traffic stop Sunday outside of Hard Rock Stadium was released by police a day later.
Body camera video shows Hill stopped outside the stadium and asked to roll down his window by officers before he was forcefully pulled from the car, taken to the ground and placed into handcuffs.
Local 10 News obtained the employee profile for Torres Friday, which shows his work history from his start date in October of 1996.
Since then, he’s received 29 commendations that include dedication to duty, professionalism and assistance to the public.
But that file also shows complaints that included use of force allegations – some of which were sustained while others were not - conduct unbecoming of an officer and improper procedure of his body worn camera.
He was involved in more than a dozen use of force incidents and has been disciplined ten times. One instance in 2018 saw him suspended for 20 days.
The file obtained by Local 10 News doesn’t include specifics about the incidents that led to discipline.
Miami-Dade police’s investigation into the traffic stop and Torres’ actions remains ongoing.
Torres’ attorney said the decision to place his client on leave was premature and is calling for his reinstatement.
