Circle of Brotherhood meets with Miami-Dade police director to discuss Tyreek Hill incident

Circle of Brotherhood member: ‘We feel confident they’re doing the right thing’

DORAL, Fla. – The Tyreek Hill traffic stop outside Hard Rock Stadium is still fresh on the minds of many in South Florida.

That includes members of community activist group Circle of Brotherhood, which had a private meeting with Miami-Dade Police Department Director Stephanie Daniels on Monday.

“We train police officers, and my thought was, that situation could be completely avoided,” said Lyle Muhammad, with the Circle of Brotherhood. “She immediately got the footage out, she immediately put the officer, who they are questioning, on administrative leave, and there’s an ongoing investigation. I think it was a very good meeting. We feel confident they’re doing the right thing.”

The Miami Dolphins star has called for the firing of the Miami-Dade police officer seen forcing him to the ground.

Officer Daniel Torres is a 27-year veteran of the Miami-Dade Police Department who is now on administrative leave.

His employee profile shows numerous commendations, but also use of force allegations. He’s been disciplined 10 times.

“I haven’t had a chance to talk to our brother Tyreek yet, but I think it’s honorable for anyone to recognize where they could have improved as well too,” said Muhammad.

The Brotherhood’s involvement with the department is nothing new. They’ve been conducting training exercises with cops and cadets since 2018 to improve relationships, especially with Black and Brown communities.

“Sometimes high-profile situations take place to bring attention to issues and matters that really need to be addressed,” said Muhammad.
