43 Cuban migrants detained after making landfall in Florida Keys

MARATHON, Fla. – A group of 43 migrants from Cuba were detained early Tuesday morning after they came ashore in the Florida Keys, authorities confirmed.

According to Andrew Scharnweber, Interim Chief Patrol Agent of the U.S. Border Patrol - Miami Sector, the migrants arrived at Sombrero Beach in Marathon on a wooden fishing boat.

A photo taken at the beach shows the small white and blue boat, with “Habana” painted on the back.

The group is now in the custody of the U.S. Border Patrol and are expected to be processed by Border Patrol agents.
