Longboat Key residents dealing with hurricane recovery for second time in two weeks

SARASOTA, Fla. – Residents in the Sarasota area are starting the process of evaluating the damage, again.

John Parisi showed Local 10 News’ Jenise Fernandez his mobile home park in Longboat Key. It was the second time in two weeks he and his neighbors are dealing with devastation from a hurricane.

He explained to us first the damage from Hurricane Helene, which was mostly a water event, but Milton was a wind event, and it’s evident to see.

Roofs have been torn off, trees were uprooted and debris was scattered everywhere.

Longboat Key officials said the storm surge from Milton wasn’t nearly as high as predicted, but the island still suffered.

The roads now not only covered with debris from Helene, but piles of sand from Milton.

Residents are left questioning whether it is worth rebuilding.
