Water rescues continue in Tampa area after Milton flooding

TAMPA – Some homes in the Tampa area have been cut off by flooding from Hurricane Milton.

Residents like Maria Hernandez are trying to wait it out.

Hernandez and her kids are staying put, in the dark without power and in floodwater water.

Juan Hernandez told Local 10 News’ Andrew Perez that the water flowed in quickly during the storm.

“We’re just staying upstairs and waiting until the water is gone,” he said.

5 p.m. report:

He is staying with his three siblings, his mom and cousins, all camped out upstairs.

“This one was really hard for me,” he said. “Water just came in out of nowhere. I was shocked.”

Intense water rescues continued all across the Tampa area.

More than six feet of water came inside a home in Dover, as Hillsborough County workers came to the rescue to get eight people out, including a child.

Block by block, a similar story, with many residents saying they expected the water might go down by now.

Apryl Hicks and her daughters called for help on Friday morning, unable to walk the uneven grounds to get out.

“Yesterday evening and today we were being told this could be a couple of weeks,” said Hicks.

She said she is beyond thankful to the heroes who showed up to take them to shelter.
