Miramar police investigate deadly shooting in Dunkin’ parking lot

MIRAMAR, Fla. – Miramar police are investigating a deadly shooting that occurred Tuesday morning and involved two victims, authorities confirmed to Local 10 News.

According to police, the shooting occurred in the 6200 block of Miramar Parkway. Sky 10 was above the scene as a Dunkin’ parking lot was blocked off with crime scene tape.

Police confirmed that one person was killed and another was injured in the shooting.

Noon report:

Patricia Riviera, who lives nearby, told Local 10′s Joseph Ojo that she heard the shots just before 3:30 a.m.

“At 3:29 exactly, I hear multiple gunshots, one after the other after the other,” she said. “I was like, ‘Oh my God, those are gunshots, those aren’t fireworks.”

Police would show up to the Dunkin’ and find shell casings in the parking lot.

“However, they were not able to locate any victims or involved vehicles,” Miramar police Sgt. Tiffany Roy said.

Shortly after, police received additional 911 calls -- one from a man who had been shot and was already at Memorial Regional Hospital.

Another 911 call came from the area of State Road 7 and Southwest 23rd Street where Local 10′s cameras captured a BMW with its doors open and police talking with witnesses. At least one person was taken away in handcuffs but no arrests have been announced as of Tuesday evening.

Police said they found a man dead inside a vehicle after being shot. Family members showed up to the scene, overcome with emotion. The news of the victim’s death was so devastating for the victim’s pregnant wife that she had to be taken away by EMS.

Local 10′s Sanela Sabovic obtained surveillance video from that scene showing a dark-colored car driving slowly next to a police cruiser before an officer is seen speaking with someone inside the car just moments after the shooting occurred. Officers later examined the vehicle and covered the body.

Though police believe the altercation started at the Dunkin’, they say both parties left the area following the shooting.

Police also confirmed the second shooting victim is expected to recover.

They have not released the identities of the victims, and the circumstances leading to the shooting remain under investigation. Anyone with information is urged to contact Miramar police or Crime Stoppers at 954-493-8477.
