CUTLER BAY, Fla. – A terrifying spate of gunfire, captured on cellphone video exclusively obtained by Local 10, sent families scrambling for cover during a children’s baseball game at Franjo Park on Monday evening.
“Anybody get hit? No!” a bystander was heard shouting in the video.
Police say the shooting did not happen inside the park but nearby, just before 8 p.m.
Miami-Dade and Cutler Bay police officers said they responded to the scene near Old Cutler Road and Franjo Road, where they found two men suffering from gunshot wounds.
According to Detective Angel Rodriguez, an MDPD spokesman, Miami-Dade Fire Rescue transported both victims to Jackson South Medical Center, where they were listed in stable condition with non-life threatening injuries.
A Local 10 News Crew was at the scene where part of an Amoco gas station on that block was cordoned off with crime scene tape, and evidence markers were placed on the ground, documenting the aftermath of the violent encounter.
Detectives were seen working behind the gas station, speaking with witnesses to piece together the events leading up to the shooting.
The gunfire, heard clearly in the video at the top of the page, suggests more than one weapon was involved, with witnesses indicating that the men may have been shooting at each other.
“Aye, the guy that was shooting behind you?” a witness asked.
“Yes, he was behind the wall — he was shooting at him!” another responded.
The chaotic scene left families at the park fleeing for safety.
“I think he just hit my truck on the way out,” one person remarked as the dust settled.
Rodriguez confirmed that no suspects had been identified, and no additional information on the victims or a motive for the shooting was immediately released.
Anyone with information on the shooting is urged to call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-8477.
