NORTH MIAMI, Fla. – Millienne Jean Charles said Wednesday that although she was puzzled, she wasn’t surprised that her 25-year-old daughter, the youngest of six, died while trying to help others.
While grieving at home in North Miami, Jean Charles said witnesses in Miami-Dade County and Florida Highway Patrol troopers described her daughter Milliana Jean as a Good Samaritan.
“When I get there, I say, ‘Where?’ He says, ‘On the highway!’ And he said, ‘Good Samaritan!’ I say, ‘How is she good Samaritan?’ He tells me, ‘Dead ... maybe she got to help somebody on the highway,’” Jean Charles said. “I say, ‘Why my daughter go to the highway, park the car to go to help somebody?’”
Jean Charles was still trying to understand what happened on the Interstate 95 northbound lanes, between Northwest 103 and 95 Streets, Friday morning, in northern Miami-Dade County.
According to Lt. Alex Camacho, a spokesman for FHP, there were two collisions. First, the driver of a blue Dodge sports utility vehicle lost control and crashed into a concrete barrier wall.
“The Dodge became disabled and came to rest blocking the roadway,” Camacho wrote after the crash. “An oncoming black Honda sedan collided into the Dodge.”
Camacho said the Honda struck several people who were standing on the roadway. A woman died on I-95 and two others were injured. Fire Rescue took them to Jackson Memorial Hospital’s Ryder Trauma Center.
