OPA-LOCKA, Fla. – In Opa-locka, Vietnam veteran Jose Quinones is picking up food from local nonprofit Make-A-Wish Veterans.
“My wife and I, we really depend on them,” said Quinones.
The good people of Make-A-Wish Veterans host weekly food distributions to help America’s finest.
“There’s other programs, but I like it here, because they are more personalized and you never know what you’re going to get but you always get something good,” said Quinones.
The non-profit’s work has expanded to others in the community: Make-A-Wish Veterans feeds more than 500 people on a monthly basis.
“We are going through tough times now and the food distribution helps a lot with the family,” said food recipient Moise Lidecana.
Princess Fuller oversees the organization.
“We’re seeing more of the community, more of the low income families, more veterans,” said Fuller. “Everybody is in need.”
She took on the role in 2007 after her godfather, who was also a war veteran, passed away.
“He had a love for veterans,” Fuller said. “I have a love for people. I have a love for helping people and I try to keep doing this here and keep it going.”
But she can’t do it alone. As a Local 10 Day of Giving partner organization, Make-A-Wish Veterans depends on your generous support.

The organization will be at the Publix located at 9050 Biscayne Blvd. in Miami Shores from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m.
