MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. – A 45-year-old woman told Miami-Dade detectives she was just outside her home when a teenage boy suddenly punched her with a closed fist on the head and face, and shouted, “Money! Money!”
According to a police report, the woman said she pointed to her purse, so he grabbed it, took her cash and cell phone, and pushed and hit to remove her clothes and rape her.

Over two years after the crime, police officers arrested Donovan Stokes. Detectives believe he followed the woman on March 25, 2022, while she walked home after buying groceries.
The woman reported Stokes, then 17 years old, grabbed her underwear to clean himself, so detectives reported finding a condom with DNA evidence in a trash bin at her home’s front yard.
According to a Miami-Dade police report, on Oct. 17, the woman recognized Stokes as “someone she has never engaged in consensual sexual intercourse with.”
Detectives detained Stokes — who turned 20 in April and lives in the Pinewood neighborhood — on Oct. 24.
They questioned him at the department’s special victims bureau in Doral and arrested him after he admitted to facts of the case that police did not disclose to protect the victim.
Miami-Dade correctional officers booked Stokes on Thursday afternoon and he was at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center on Friday.
Court records show Stokes is facing four felony charges: Two counts of sexual battery, one count of strong-arm robbery, and one count of burglary/assault/battery. His arraignment was set for 9 a.m., Nov. 18, before Miami-Dade County Circuit Judge Richard Hersch.
