POMPANO BEACH, Fla. – It was a beautiful morning for the 21st annual Miles for Smiles 5K at Pompano Beach Community Park on Saturday.
The event benefits the Broward Children’s Center which has been serving infants, children and young adults with special needs since 1971.
Local 10′s Nicole Perez hosted the event and spoke to many who took part.
“We have a medical acute center. We run that just like an ICU. We do respite services to give the family a break,” said David Perez, Director if Development, Broward Children’s Center.
“There’s a lot of support there with the team. Whenever I have a bad day, I call and they know what I’m going through,” said Francesca Canonica, a mother.
The programs at the Broward Children’s Center serve close to 1,000 children and their families. According to the organization’s website, proceeds will support Broward Children’s Center’s crucial programs and medical, developmental, and therapeutic services designed to meet the specific needs of infants, children and young adults who are developmentally disabled and medically fragile and their families.
