Sweetwater police said the incident occurred just before 2:15 p.m. at their home near the 11000 block of Southwest Seventh Street.

The victim told police that she and her mother, 56-year-old Elba Iris Sepulveda were arguing over “family issues” when it escalated into a fight.

Police said the argument turned physical when Sepulveda “threw a cloth at the victim, grabbed her by the neck, and attempted to choke her.”

Sepulveda then “went to the kitchen, retrieved a knife, and charged at the victim with it in hand.”

The victim told police that she then kicked Sepulveda in self-defense.

Detectives said there is video evidence of the incident that was recorded on the victim’s Ring camera, which she showed them through her cellphone.

Sepulveda was arrested at the scene and transported to the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center, where she faces one count each of domestic battery by strangulation and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

As of Wednesday, she remains at TGK, where her bond was listed as “to be set.”
