Prosecutors said early indications were that it all stemmed from a parking dispute.
According to a Key West Police Department Facebook post, the dispute happened along the 400 block of the city’s famed street.
Officials with the Monroe County State Attorney’s Office said an initial investigation revealed that the dispute appeared to be over how cars were parked on the street, leading one man to pull a knife and the other to pull out a gun.
They said the man with the gun fired a warning shot into the ground. Amid the fray, one of the people involved suffered a fractured skull after being headbutted, requiring helicopter transport to a trauma center.
Officials haven’t publicly identified those involved or elaborated on the injured person’s condition as of Tuesday afternoon.
Police said they were “actively investigating” the incident.
