According to authorities, troopers tried to pull over Joshua Lapidus, 34, of Palm Beach County, for speeding, but he took off, weaving in and out of traffic and at one point hit speeds over 100 mph.

“He misses us literally by inches,” witness Will Busby told Local 10 News. “I thought, ‘Oh my gosh, you really, like, could’ve killed all of us.’”

He eventually got out and jumped from the bridge, only to be picked up by a sheriff’s office marine unit.

Lapidus was heard on cellphone video giving this explanation for his behavior: “I got stoned.”

He was booked into the Monroe County jail on multiple charges and remained there on a $105,000 bond as of Thursday.
