MIAMI – New evidence is coming to light in the murder of Cuban rapper El Taiger.
Pictures were released of the suspect, 50-year-old Damian Valdez Gallozo, after his arrest in New York showing his multiple tattoos.
Photos also show the inside and outside of the Hialeah home where he is accused of murdering the popular artist.
In what appears to be an empty efficiency, police are investigating whether Gallozo tampered with evidence, including the door through which the fatal shots were allegedly fired.
Surveillance video also obtained by Local 10 News shows El Taiger, whose real name is José Manuel Carvajal Zaldívar, walking up to the front door on Southeast Fifth Street back on Oct. 3.
About five minutes later he was shot and killed. Police later found his body in the trunk of a car abandoned near Jackson Memorial Hospital.
A Local 10 News crew was outside the jail asking the suspected murderer directly in Spanish if he was guilty, but he stayed silent.
El Taiger’s family and friends say they are hoping the Miami-Dade State Attorney’s Office increases the charges against the suspected killer from second-degree murder to first-degree murder at the suspect’s arraignment later this month.
