LAUDERHILL, Fla. – The Lauderhill Police Department released a video on Saturday recorded by a police officer’s body camera during a fatal police shooting.
The video recorded on Friday afternoon shows the 28-year-old woman approaching the police officer at 4045 NW 16 St., in Lauderhill, and the police officer firing his gun. According to Lt. Antonio Gonzalez, a spokesman for the department, the woman who collapsed in a grassy area was Monique Scott.

“Lauderhill Police officers received a call for service,” Gonzalez wrote. “The caller managed to provide only a first name and location before the line disconnected.”
The department did not identify the police officer in the video, but Gonzales reported he has worked for the department for three years. Gonzalez also released a statement describing what the police officer reported happened after he responded to the initial 911 call shortly after 12:30 p.m.
“The officer knocked on the door of Ms. Monique Scott’s apartment but received no response. As the officer the building, he encountered Ms. Scott’s outside near his marked police vehicle,” Gonzalez wrote.
The police officer reported Scott was armed with a knife and he ordered her to “put it down” several times as she walked toward him.
“Moments later, the officer transmitted an additional message over the police radio, reporting that shots had been fired,” Gonzalez wrote.
Scott died at Broward Health in Fort Lauderdale and The Florida Department of Law Enforcement has been investigating the fatal police shooting, police said. According to Gonzalez, a witness was cooperating with investigators. The department did not identify the witness.
“To ensure transparency, the Lauderhill Police Department has released body-worn camera footage from the involved officer ... The decision to release this footage underscores our dedication to fostering trust and openness with the community we serve,” Gonzalez wrote.
