1 dead, 1 critical after shooting near Wawa in southwest Miami-Dade

MIAMI – A shooting late Sunday night left one person dead and another critically injured, according to the Miami-Dade Police Department.

MDPD detective Andre Martin said officers initially responded to a ShotSpotter alert near Southwest 265th Street and 138th Court shortly after 9:15 p.m. but found no victims or evidence of a shooting.

About 30 minutes later, Martins said a vehicle carrying two gunshot victims arrived at a gas station near Southwest 112th Avenue and 248th Street in the Princeton area of southwest Miami-Dade.

A customer alerted a nearby Miami-Dade police officer, who rendered aid until Miami-Dade Fire Rescue arrived.

One victim, later identified as 37-year-old JD Jones Jr., was pronounced dead at the scene, while the other was transported to Jackson South Medical Center in critical but stable condition, Martin confirmed.

Authorities have not publicly identified the surviving victim, a 25-year-old man.

Investigators are urging witnesses to come forward with information by calling Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-8477.
