MIAMI – A pre-trial detention hearing took place at the Miami federal courthouse Monday for Alon Alexander, the brother of two real estate moguls charged with federal sex crimes.
Alon Alexander’s lawyer attempted to persuade a judge to release him ahead of his impending trial.
The central question is whether Alon Alexander will await trial at home or in jail as the case progresses.
His brother Oren was also present at the hearing.
“They’ve never been convicted of anything,” defense attorney Howard Srenick said.
Srebnick proposed measures such as house arrest, GPS monitoring, a private security company, or any bond amount to demonstrate that Alon Alexander will comply with court orders and is not a flight risk.
Federal authorities argue for holding him without bond, citing concerns about the brothers’ wealth and access to private planes and yachts, which they claim make them a flight risk.
Alon, his twin brother Oren, and their older brother Tal Alexander are accused of operating a sex trafficking operation for over a decade, accused of using their real estate wealth to lure women and girls, taking them on trips to Mexico and the Hamptons, drugging them, and raping them.
According to the FBI, more than 40 victims said “they were assaulted by at least one of the brothers.
“Not one accuser has given sworn testimony to substantiate the allegations,” Srebnick said. “There’s no physical evidence to corroborate any of their accusations.”
A different judge has already denied bond for Tal Alexander. That ruling is being appealed.
“We have proposed to offer every single asset available to the Alexander Family — a family that came to this country as immigrants — that worked hard for the last 50 years — they’ve earned every dollar they’ve ever made in this country,” Srebnick said. “They are willing to put their money where their mouth is because they know that their son, Alon, will appear in court to answer these charges”
The judge made no ruling Monday, but defense attorneys could present even more bond conditions.
A ruling could come as early as Friday morning.
