MIAMI BEACH, Fla. – Police are investigating after some pricy antique jewelry was stolen from a man who had just purchased the items at a Miami Beach antique show.
The crime happened outside Roasters N’ Toasters on 41st Street at around 3 p.m. Saturday.
Surveillance video captured the incident as it happened.
4 p.m. report:
Witness said the victim locked his white SUV and wanted to grab a quick bite to eat. That’s when a silver van pulled up and someone jumped out, smashed a window of the victim’s SUV and jumped in, leaving his legs and feet dangling out of the vehicle.
The crook quickly grabbed something from the victim’s SUV before getting back into the silver van and taking off into the Miami Beach afternoon.
Local 10 News’ Rosh Lowe spoke to Josh Nodal who is opening a new restaurant next to Roasters N’ Toasters and already has surveillance cameras running.
“He got takeout or something, the guy took three minutes,” Nodal said.
He said shortly after the crime happened, Miami Beach police were scouring the area for footage and clues.
Investigators requested Nodal’s footage, which showed the crime take place.
“They said the robbery was for an antique that is worth $80,000, and it happened right here in this parking lot,” Nodal said of what the police told him. “They definitely think (the victim) was followed.”
Anyone with information or who thinks they recognize the people in the video are urged to call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS.
