MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. – There’s been a break in the case of the senseless killing of a South Florida middle school student earlier this month.
Tyler Kingsley, 23, of Pembroke Pines, appeared in bond court in Miami Dade County on Wednesday morning facing second-degree murder charges.
Sources tell Local 10 News his arrest is related to the killing of 13-year-old Johvan Taylor Jr. in Florida City on Jan. 4.
Police say Taylor was standing outside with a group of friends near Northwest 13th Street and Sixth Avenue when someone walked up and started shooting.
Paramedics airlifted Taylor to Jackson South Medical Center where he later died from his injuries.
A second teen was injured in the shooting.
Law enforcement officers arrested Kingsley on Tuesday.
He was first taken to the Broward Sheriff’s Office Main Jail in Fort Lauderdale before being moved to Miami-Dade’s Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center. Details of his arrest so far are sealed.
