Cops say Miami-Dade man paid 13-year-old for sex, asked her to ‘recruit’ friends

William Murray (MDCR)

NORTH MIAMI BEACH, Fla. – A northwest Miami-Dade man’s random direct message to a teenage girl led to him sexually victimizing her multiple times in exchange for money and an iPad, according to police. Authorities said he tried “multiple times” to have the 13-year-old get her friends to join in.

North Miami Beach police arrested William Renard Murray, 26, at his home in the unincorporated Biscayne Gardens area Thursday evening.

An arrest report states that in the summer of 2024, Murray “randomly sent the victim a direct message” on Instagram and after communicating for a week, the two met in person.

Police said Murray drove to her home and after the girl got in his vehicle, he gave her alcohol and marijuana before engaging in sex acts. They said he then paid her via Cash App.

The report states they then had a second sexual meetup.

Authorities said the girl initially didn’t tell Murray how old she was, but as the summer ended and school began, she told him she had to go to school. Police said when Murray asked how old she was, the girl lied and told him she was 15 — still well below Florida’s age of consent — and in the 10th grade.

The report states that Murray and the girl continued seeing each other and Murray “even dropped her off at school on one occasion.”

“She truly attends middle school, so he dropped her off at the high school, she then walked to her middle school,” police wrote.

Police said the victim estimated that she and Murray engaged in sex acts at least five times and said he would pay her up to $150 — and at one point even got her an iPad — in exchange.

“The victim said that (Murray) asked her multiple times to recruit friends who could join them in engaging in sex acts and he offered to pay $200,” the report states.

Police said they went to Murray’s home in the 15700 block of Northwest Second Avenue Thursday and took him into custody. He declined to speak with police.

Murray, facing five counts of lewd and lascivious battery on a child and two counts of contributing to the delinquency of a minor, was being held in the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center on a $38,500 bond, jail records show.
