LAUDERHILL, Fla. – A suspect has been arrested in connection with a deadly shooting that occurred in Lauderhill late last year, police confirmed Friday.
Joseph Murray, the father of 18-year-old Jimir Murray, spoke exclusively with Local 10 News following Thursday’s arrest of Nerlyn Polycarpe, who police said is accused of shooting Jimir to death back in November.
Lauderhill police said Jimir Murray was found shot in a Lauderhill parking lot near the 2400 block of Northwest 41st Avenue on November 24, 2024, just hours before he was set to enlist in the United States Army.
Investigators said he was transported to Broward Health Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.
The victim’s father reflected on his loss when speaking to Local 10′s Rosh Lowe, saying, “I will continue to push to find justice for him.”
Murray described the painful circumstances leading to his son’s death, revealing that Jimir had been lured to the area after meeting someone.
“He had met someone else and so the story… meet… vehicle, something transpired… left him and took vehicle,” he said. “His Porsche was taken and Jimir was shot.”
Investigators said Polycarpe, 28, was arrested on Thursday by U.S. Marshals.
Reflecting on his son’s death, Joseph Murray said he has no words for those responsible, adding, “Apparently other people involved... what would you say? I don’t have any words... me and God.”
Despite his grief, Murray held on to hope, saying, “I look forward to the day when I can hug him again.”
Jail records show Polycarpe is being held without bond at the Broward County Jail, where he is facing one count each of premeditated murder, two counts of robbery with a firearm, carjacking with a firearm or weapon and illegal possession of a weapon or ammunition by a convicted felon.
Anyone with information on the shooting is urged to call Broward Crime Stoppers at 954-493-8477.
