Fort Lauderdale police said the property manager called officers about a disturbance at the marina at around 6:30 p.m.

3:30 p.m. report:

During the encounter, an officer fired their weapon, striking the man, according to investigators.

“At some point, an officer discharged his firearm and requested EMS (Emergency Medical Services),” said Fort Lauderdale Police Maj. Patrick Hart.

Authorities said the suspect was taken to the hospital, but his condition was not immediately known. The officer was not injured.

The shooting follows two other police-involved incidents in January.

On Jan. 19, Fort Lauderdale police said officers fatally shot a man at a gas station off Davie Boulevard.

Police said the man in that case failed to stop for a traffic stop, pulled into the station, and exited his car holding what appeared to be a gun.

“I just heard a round of about maybe eight or nine rounds go off,” a witness said.

It was unclear why police initiated the traffic stop.

Investigators said FLPD officers also shot and killed a man near Northwest 33rd Avenue on Jan. 9.

Police were responding to a fire in a parking lot when they encountered a man throwing devices and refusing to comply with commands, authorities said.

According to PoliceData.org, law enforcement officers in the U.S. use force on at least 300,000 people annually, based on incidents between 2017 and 2022.

The officers involved in all three shootings have been placed on administrative leave per department policy.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is investigating all of the reported shootings.
