According to the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office, the incident occurred just after 6:30 a.m. on Dec. 23 in the area of Southwest 107th Avenue and 38th Street.

Deputies said the victim was crossing the street when he was struck by a red Chevrolet Tahoe.

According to the report, the victim went to MDSO’s Midwest District Station on Jan. 20 and told a detective he had learned that the person who struck him that morning was one of his neighbors who lives across the street from him.

He provided the detective with a description of the vehicle and license plate number.

Deputies said the suspect, Armando Guevara-Acosta, was pulled over Wednesday in his SUV while driving west on Southwest 40th Street.

He was transported to the Midwest District Station for questioning, and provided a written statement, claiming he was not aware that he had been involved in a crash, the arrest report stated.

According to the report, Guevara-Acosta was shown surveillance video which shows his vehicle running over the victim.

Guevara-Acosta was then arrested on a charge of leaving the scene of a crash resulting in serious bodily injury.

As of Thursday afternoon, Guevara-Acosta was being held at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center where his bond had yet to be set.
