Police: Trio kidnaps Miami luxury condo neighbor, tortures him with gun, knife, Taser, pepper spray

MIAMI – Police officers say a few weeks after Olatomiwa “Chevy” Ajayi turned 22 he and two of his friends aged 21 and 22 committed a crime at a Miami luxury condominium tower that is punishable by life.

A 21-year-old man told detectives that he went over to visit Ajayi, his neighbor on the 29th floor of the Paramount World Center, at about 4 p.m., on Nov. 25, and almost didn’t come out alive.

The man reported playing three games of NBA 2K on a PlayStation before Ajayi, Jarvius Neal, and Keshawn Smith moved to beat him up, tied his hands with zip ties, and took off his clothes.

According to an arrest warrant, the trio used guns, a knife, a Taser, and a pepper spray can to torture him while stealing about $8,000 in cash from him. He reported they let him leave the apartment at about 11 p.m.

The victim was allegedly too afraid to notify police at first, but when a friend did, police officers responded to the apartment where the crime happened shortly after 2:30 a.m., on Nov. 26, records show.

Police officers reported finding Neal, 22, and Smith, 21, and seizing Ajayi’s Illinois identification, a loaded Glock between the cushions on the sofa, an extended magazine in a closet, and about $6,000 in cash.

Police officers also reported finding the packaging for two Tasers, the pepper spray, and damaged flex cuffs in the kitchen. Ajayi was a wanted fugitive when he was arrested in Chicago, records show.

Ajayi was quickly extradited and booked on Wednesday at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center where he remained without bond on Thursday afternoon on two warrant cases.

County records show correctional officers booked Neal and Smith on Nov. 26 and they were both at the Metrowest Detention Center without bond on Thursday afternoon.

The three men are facing a charge of armed robbery with a firearm, a felony in the first degree punishable by life. They are also facing two second-degree felonies for false imprisonment with a deadly weapon and aggravated battery with a deadly weapon.

Ajayi had been out on probation after a case with charges of discharging a firearm from a vehicle and culpable negligence for inflicting personal injury.
