The cellphone video, released by Only in Dade, shows a man walking his dog near the 600 block of Southwest Seventh Street when the animal appears to be pulling back away from the man and sits down.

Shortly after, the man then appears to use the tail end of a leash to smack the dog, causing it to flinch and pull away.

The video quickly went viral, drawing backlash from viewers who expressed concern for the dog’s well-being.

The Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office responded to the post with a comment reading, “#WeWillFindYou,” fueling speculation that authorities may be looking into the incident. However, the sheriff’s office later clarified that the case could fall under the jurisdiction of the Miami Police Department.
