MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. – Relatives identified the three children and the woman who died in a crash Saturday that detectives said involved a drunk driver who was speeding.
The children were 8-year-old Azaria McCall and 10-year-olds Kamari Graham and Ireanna Johnson. The woman was Rosa Jones, their grandmother.
Kamari was celebrating his birthday.
“I have to deal with this for the rest of my life,” said Ronald McCall, a grieving father.
Surveillance video shows the crash on Saturday at Northwest 170th Street and 37th Avenue in Miami Gardens.
“Speed was a factor, alcohol was also a factor,” Miami Gardens Police Executive Officer Emmanuel Jeanty said.
Ronald McCall said the children’s mother and a boy were injured during the crash and remained hospitalized on Monday afternoon.
“Their mom is doing better now. She is off the machines and everything, breathing on her own,” McCall said. “It’s going to be a hard thing when she gets back knowing that her kids are dead.”
According to police, Antonio Wilcox, Jr. was driving the black Kia Sorento that plowed into a white Nissan Altima.
The Altima crashed into a gray Cadillac Escalade. Azaria, Kamari, Ireanna, and Jones were in the Altima.
An Opa-locka police officer who was heading to work was among the witnesses. Another witness recorded a video after hearing the loud crash.
Good Samaritans rushed to help. Miami-Dade Fire Rescue personnel responded.
Wilcox, 25, is facing five counts of vehicular homicide. On Monday, records did not show him as an inmate in Miami-Dade County.
