MIAMI – A woman victimized by a Peeping Tom in her Miami neighborhood is now saying that she knows who the creeper is.
“The new development is that I have been able to identify this individual,” said Sofia Galiano. “Based off a tip from neighbors from the area saying we recognize this guy we see him all the time.”
A few hours later police announced the arrest of 26-year-old Mike Jacques.
Galiano initially spoke with Local 10 News on Monday regarding the Peeping Tom caught on surveillance cameras peering into the windows of her apartment at a four-unit apartment building off Northwest 74th street and First Court but she had a new update on Tuesday.
“Today, I spoke with detectives and we did a lineup and I identified him,” she said.
The strange man has been spotted prowling on the property at least three times in recent weeks.
The last time was Sunday, when he bypassed a number of “No Trespassing” signs and series of cameras to unlatch a backyard fence, where he appeared to make himself comfortable while peeping into Galiano’s back window.
After making the ID, authorities announced Jacques’ arrest later Tuesday evening.
“I think they are waiting to make sure this is the individual,” said Galiano. “Other women have identified him, but I think it’s the point of making contact with him.”
This isn’t Jacques first run-in with law enforcement.
In late 2023, he was arrested on four felony counts, including sexual battery and kidnapping, after police said he raped a woman in Miami’s Little Haiti neighborhood.
When asked about the identify of a suspect, investigators told Local 10 News earlier Tuesday that it had been too soon to release an identify and that they didn’t what to ruin the investigation.
“I don’t feel safe,” said Galiano. “This is going to be ongoing until I know for sure he won’t return.”
