MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. – Newly obtained surveillance video shows the moments a former Miami-Dade Schools police officer shot her ex-boyfriend, a Miami-Dade sheriff’s deputy, in what investigators describe as a premeditated attack.
Yessenia Sanchez, 35, who was arrested in November 2022, is accused of tracking MDSO Deputy Damian Colón to his Hialeah home before shooting him in the head and fleeing the scene.
The surveillance footage, obtained by Local 10 News Thursday, captures the two outside the home.
Moments later, Sanchez, while holding a gun in hand, appeared to fire a shot, causing Colón to collapse.
After the shooting, security footage from the neighborhood shows her truck crashing into multiple parked vehicles before she abandoned it and ran.
Investigators say Sanchez used an app to track Colón to his Hialeah home, shot him, and “left a path of destruction.”
Deputies said Colón was rushed to a nearby hospital in critical condition but survived.
Authorities said Sanchez was later arrested at her Hialeah home.
In court, a judge found probable cause for a pair of serious charges.
“Ms. Sanchez, I do find probable cause for one count of attempted murder in the first degree with a deadly weapon and count two, aggravated stalking,” the judge said.
As of Thursday, Sanchez remains behind bars without bond at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center.
Her next court appearance is scheduled for March 13.
