The crash happened near the 9900 block of Northwest South River Drive.

Investigators believe the driver may have suffered a medical episode before losing control of the car.

Cellphone video from a bystander shows the car flipped upside down in the water, with tire tracks visible along the bank where it veered off the road.

Authorities said a Medley police officer was the first to arrive at the scene and shattered one of the car’s window in an effort to rescue the man.

Shortly after, Miami-Dade Fire Rescue divers arrived, entered the water, and pulled the man from the submerged vehicle, they said.

Authorities confirmed that the man was rushed to Palmetto General Hospital for treatment, where he remains in critical condition.

They have not released details about his age or identity.
