The Broward State Attorney’s Office confirmed that Andre Clements III was sentenced Tuesday to 40 years in Florida state prison to be followed by a lifetime on probation.

He pleaded guilty to first-degree murder, tampering with evidence and conspiracy to commit murder.

According to the SAO, the victim’s mother spoke in court, making it clear that she and her family supported the outcome to avoid further trauma that a trial would bring them.

Police said a love triangle between Miramar High School students is what led to the murder of 18-year-old Dwight “DJ” Grant.

Grant was a senior preparing to graduate when he vanished on Oct. 17, 2021. Detectives found him dead two days later. He had suffered a knife wound in his neck and a sword wound in his chest when the killers left him behind bushes at an apartment complex, near Sherman Circle North, police said.

Detectives reported finding surveillance videos and text messages incriminating three of his teenage classmates: Christie Parisien, Jaslyn Smith, and Clements. According to police, Parisien, then 17, was allegedly dating Clements, then also 17, and Smith, then 16, was their friend.

Christie Parisien, left, and Jaslyn Smith, right, were both sentenced to 25 years in prison in August 2024. (BSO)

Detectives also reported the evidence showed Clements viewed Grant as a romantic rival.

Parisien and Smith were each sentenced last year to 25 years in prison.
