Fort Lauderdale police arrested the suspect, who they identified as 61-year-old Alexander Albert Walkins, shortly after the incident.

The surveillance video shows the victim, identified as “Reggie,” wearing a white shirt and speaking with Walkins, who is draped in a blue Miami Dolphins blanket, outside a convenience store in the 800 block of Northwest 10th Terrace just after 6 p.m.

Shortly after their conversation begins, shouting erupts.

“For what? I’m poor as you!” a voice yells before Walkins pulls out a gun and fires a single round.

The surveillance footage captures the gunshot, which struck Reggie in the leg. Moments later, Walkins is seen robbing him at gunpoint before fleeing on a bicycle.

Reggie went into the convenience store for help and was later transported to Broward Health Medical Center, where he is expected to recover, police said.

Officers spent hours at the scene, roping off the area and speaking with witnesses.

Jail records show he is facing one count each of attempted felony murder, illegal possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, violation of parole, and two counts of robbery with a firearm.

As of Wednesday, he is being held without bond at the Broward Main Jail.

Police said the incident is not related to the fatal shooting of 16-year-old Tanasia Atterberry on Monday night, but it was the second reported shooting in the city in just under 24 hours.

Authorities are investigating both incidents and urge anyone with information to call Broward Crime Stoppers at 954-493-8477.
