MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. – Two detectives with the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office were hospitalized overnight following a crash involving an 18-wheeler, authorities confirmed Friday morning.

According to MDSO, the crash occurred around 11:36 p.m. Thursday at the intersection of Northwest 167th Street and 12th Avenue.
Deputies said the detectives were heading north on 12th Avenue in an unmarked vehicle when they collided with an 18-wheeler that was traveling west on 167th Street.
Miami-Dade Fire Rescue rushed to the scene and transported the detectives to Jackson Memorial Hospital’s Ryder Trauma Center with a law enforcement escort.
MDSO confirmed that the detectives were listed in stable condition and no other injuries were reported. One detective has since been released from the hospital.
MDSO’s Traffic Homicide Unit is investigating the circumstances leading up to the crash.
It’s not yet clear which driver was at fault, however authorities said it appears that one vehicle ran a red light at the intersection, causing a T-bone collision.
