Nelson Perez-Estrada was arrested on Thursday after Miami police identified him as the suspect involved in a violent confrontation that they said occurred last week near the 640 block of Northwest Fifth Avenue.

The first incident occurred on Feb. 14, when officers said they were dispatched to a violent disturbance at a location that was disclosed in an arrest report.

Upon arrival, officers said they found two victims who described a terrifying encounter with Perez-Estrada.

According to police, Perez-Estrada, who had been in a nine-year relationship with one of the victims before their breakup on Feb. 7, was waiting in a blue Ford F-150 as his ex-girlfriend and her new partner walked westbound on Northwest Seventh Street.

As the couple approached, authorities said Perez-Estrada exited his truck, holding a blue tote bag. He then pulled out a large machete and confronted the couple, the report stated.

Police said Perez-Estrada’s ex-girlfriend’s partner attempted to flee but returned to intervene when the suspect began aggressively pulling the woman approximately 20-30 feet toward his truck, demanding she get inside.

As the victim’s boyfriend attempted to stop Perez-Estrada, police said the suspect swung the machete at him.

The boyfriend was able to wrestle the machete away from Perez-Estrada after body-slamming him to the ground, according to the report.

The altercation escalated further when Perez-Estrada returned to his truck and used it as a weapon, police said.

They said he made multiple U-turns on Northwest Seventh Street while attempting to strike both victims with his truck After about three U-turns, he fled eastbound, the report stated.

Investigators said the victims sustained minor injuries.

Perez-Estrada’s ex-girlfriend suffered a scratch on her right forearm and pain in her left ankle, while her boyfriend had a bite mark on his head, cuts on his hand, and bruises on his right forearm, the report stated.

Police said surveillance footage from a nearby building captured the incident, aiding in the investigation.

Second incident leads to Perez-Estrada’s arrest

Six days after the first incident occurred, police said Perez-Estrada was involved in a home invasion with an unidentified accomplice.

According to police, a resident was inside an apartment near Northwest First Court and Northwest 10th Street on Thursday when Perez-Estrada and another man arrived, repeatedly knocking on the door and attempting to lure someone outside.

When no one opened the door, the suspects forced their way in, the report stated.

Once inside, police said Perez-Estrada and a co-defendant threatened the resident.

At some point during the break-in, police said the co-defendant kicked a small dog inside the apartment, injuring the pet. Police did not specify the extent of the dog’s injuries.

After a brief confrontation, police said the pair fled the scene.

Later that day, officers located Perez-Estrada near the scene of the break-in and took him into custody.

He was transported to a nearby jail, where they said he was read his Miranda rights and agreed to speak without an attorney.

Investigators said Perez-Estrada made some type of confession that was redacted in his arrest report.

His co-defendant in the burglary case remains at large, according to investigators.

Records show Perez-Estrada is facing a slew of charges that include first-degree attempted murder, attempted kidnapping, burglary with assault or battery, burglary of an occupied dwelling and aggravated battery.

As of Friday, he is being held without bond at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center.
